Hi - I'm Donna and thank you for taking the time to read my page. It can be difficult knowing how to choose the right counsellor so I hope having some further information about me will help.
Most of my previous work has involved supporting people who are experiencing difficulties. The last thirteen years I have worked with high risk victims of domestic abuse both in the local authority and with a charity. I have also worked with perpetrators of domestic abuse, both male and female. These roles have involved enabling clients to identify and communicate how they felt, which has been essential for them to move forward and make changes to the way they have responded to and experienced the world around them.
My counselling work built on these skills, and I now deal with a range of issues through private practice. I work a lot with anxiety and am interested in how our bodies tell us how we feel which may be at odds with how we think we should feel. A lot of anxiety manifests itself as negative thought which can be overwhelming. Breaking this down into physical and emotional responses can help us 'sit' with uncomfortable feelings, helping to process emotions. I am also trained in psycho-sexual therapy, delivering this to couples and individuals.
My clients have told me that they have found me approachable, warm and open minded. I offer a space for people to speak without fear of judgement and have been able to help people work out their issues and move forward.
Please feel free to contact me (donnasullivancounselling.co.uk) and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have if it helps you decide whether to proceed with counselling in general and me in particular.
